FAQ

Yes. You can apply for a free Hobby License for your own personal, unpaid, and non-commercial projects. Registration is required.

Not quite. The license applies only while the project is not connected to work for which you receive—or reasonably expect to receive—compensation. As soon as you start earning money with your project, you definitely have to switch to a commercial license.

The Hobby License includes the full SmartGit feature set except enterprise integrations for self-hosted GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, and Azure DevOps instances.

Eligible students and employees of public educational institutions can apply for a free license using an educational email address. Educational institutions can apply for an Academic License. Apply for an Academic License.

If your contributions are part of your own unpaid, non-commercial activity, the Hobby License will usually be the more suitable option. The dedicated Open-Source License is intended for developers who spend the majority of their development work on eligible open-source projects. Apply for an Open-Source License.
